Description
Dip Doundou Guiss, born Dominique Preira on 22 March 1991 in Dakar, grew up between Grand Yoff and Les Castors, at his grandfather’s home. He enrolled in law at Cheikh Anta Diop University before deciding to devote himself fully to music.
“DIP” comes from Dominique and the English word deep. “Doundou Guiss” means “to live and to see” in Wolof: one who tells the story of what he has lived through. Influenced by Positive Black Soul and Daara J, and later by DMX, T.I. and J. Cole, he writes in Wolof, French and English.
He wrote his first lyrics in 2009 and founded the group Doundou Guiss with his friend Sawzi in 2011 before pursuing a solo career. In 2012, he joined the Rep’Tyle Music label and made a name for himself with “Hors Norme” and “Yakarouma Ci Ken”.
The mixtape Beuss Niki Tay (2014) established him on Senegal’s national music scene. Three albums followed: TLK (Tay La Kagn, 2016), which sold more than 7,000 copies in six days; LNN (Loo Ñeme Ñakk, 2019); and LFLF (Lépp Fii Lañu Fekk, 2023), which accumulated more than 54 million streams.
In October 2025, he joined Sony Music Entertainment Africa, which distributed his EP Mayko Lolou in 2026.
On stage, he performed to a sold-out crowd at Dakar’s Iba Mar Diop Stadium in 2017, followed by a sold-out show at the Cabaret Sauvage in Paris in 2026.
